The technology outlook is based on what was published in EDN magazine, April 9, 1998 issue page 97. "Set-top-box chip sets evolve for digital TV".

Broadcasters will do digital broadcast around Nov. 1998. First set-top-boxes will covert signals for analog TV(ntsc). For $13,000 LSI Logic Integra software development platform provides a demo RTOS, device drivers and boot code. Cable TV will follow with the same type of set-top-box except it can transmit to a digital TV. The streaming is MPEG-2.
