Gentlemen and Ladies too, my take on the Euro is this. The euro bank will liquidate all dollars and only keep the euro countries currency. why keep dollars? there really is no reason except for trading and they will have plenty. gold will only be around 20%. the reason why is this, you don't really need gold to back you unless other countries think there is a risk holding your currency. by combining all of these euro countries, you will not play one against the other, you won't have to sell francs for pounds. this is a major point. it is like rhode island selling wyoming's currency, no need to do this anymore. they will have a cohesive block where capital will flow toward the most efficient area in each country to produce what they are best at. the end result , as you said, will be a dollar debacle and a gold price eruption based on the dollar drop, not on the euro backing of gold.

Off topic: Someone else who is in my camp on this one. Henry and I and everyone is entitled to their opinion and we will know soon enough. I am sticking with the strong Euro opinion and I will tell you that if that is the case it is the most important bit of information on this thread period. It means everything..a sea change for the world economically as the dollar is REPLACED as the world's reserve currency. We wait and soon we will see.
