Wrong wrong wrong- they still have slaves in Africa and parts of Asia (especailly the young girls sold into prostitution). Most countries are much more barbaric (still) than the good ole US of A. Try stealing in a Moslem country, or not wearing a veil where the Taliban is in control. The US is only criticized because it is so very open about its faults. When you talk about karma, think about Russia and the millions killed by their own government (very recently killed by your time scale). Millions in China too. I have travelled all over the world and although I loved Italy, I haven't seen anywhere I would rather live. I am no flag waver, as you know, but to criticize the United States for colonialism and slavery is just silly. Your efforts would be better spent working against the slavery that is still practiced in Africa and Asia.

>>".....we treated ex-slaves and their descendants very badly for a very long time.."<<

My God Christine, why did YOUR ancestors treat the ex-slaves so badly. Is it because they didn't get their money back?

MY ancestors went through all that trouble of freeing the slaves and YOUR ancestors still treated them like dirt even after they were freed.

You must be very ashamed of YOUR ancestors.

I'm proud as punch of mine. My ancestors were sensitive to the feelings of others and never owned slaves.

Have you considered changing your name so that people won't find out that your ancestors were slave traders?

Jim
