I just checked out a 5 minute chart on BTIM's trading today. Looks like 100,000 shares changed hands just prior to the open at 8 1/2 and then the price rose nearly 2 points (with 2 sizeable gaps) in about 1/2 hour. I would love to know who was covering or who had a stop at 8 1/2. If I had a stop there I would be seriously pissed.

Just a word of caution. I no longer place stops on NASDAQ issues. The last two stops I had both got taken out as the lows of the day. I am not exactly aware of the precise trading methods (such as who knows about conditional orders at what point in time and who can gain access to this info) but my experience has led me to deduce that once you place a stop order then it seems that the whole trading world knows where you can be bought.

Just a suspicion but one with observable evidence.
