Heh, heh ... this is Redmond, WA ... I'll bet the
GTE service is fully subscribed out of the chute.
I'm looking at the $60/month for the low-end 256Kb
service ... which whips up on GTE's own ISDN offering
of ISDN primary (128Kb) for $70/month.

Besides, the initial offering price is irrelevant, we'll
have to see how it settles down.

Reading between various lines, I'm hallucinating that
the equipment is Fujitsu/Orckit head-end and client side.

I think this is a landmark announcement because:

- other than PacBell's hand-wave, this is first major rollout
- this is first rollout of a series planned by GTE
- the response was of high quality
- it appears well-integrated into GTE infrastructure (not stepchild)

Until now, the xDSL rubber has not hit the road ... starting
in June, it will ... there will no doubt be squealing noises
and lots of smoke as the rubber actually engages the road
surface ... then we'll see what we actually get for a resultant vector.
