As I am sure you know, Christine, the English were shipping slaves to their colonies in Bermuda, Bahamas and the Indies WAY before America was a soveriegn nation. So if you want to blame someone and have reparations start with the British. My point was that all humans have complicity in some atrocity- so in my opinion assigning blame for the past is pointless. As for reparations- impossible. And a culture of victimhood is unhealthy. Better to help all people now, based on a desire to see everyone prosper, than to work out who did what to whom 100 years ago, or 50 years ago. I think most Americans want to see more middle class Americans, and less poverty and discrimination. I see this dwelling on the sins of our fathers as unhealthy for our society- that was the only reason I posted.

As for Italy, I loved the sense of history there. All those old ruins everywhere. And the countryside was beautiful. But it is not modern enough for me. Janice tells me they do not have a Costco. Need I say more?
