Here is another recent deal. Article from Ocean Oil Weekly Report April 21, 1998

STATOIL, SASOL JOIN IN SYNTHETIC FUEL DEAL

Statoil and South African company, Sasol, have established an alliance for the conversion of natural gas into synthetic crude oil and liquid fuel at sea using Fischer-Tropsch technology. Their complementary contributions will include Sasol's conversion technology and Statoil's offshore and floating production technology, and access to reserves. The Norwegian company will end its own work on developing Fischer-Tropsch technology.
The partners are already pushing ahead with the development of a concept for a floating Fischer-Tropsch conversion plant, Statoil says. Such a facility would allow natural gas to be used at the point of production rather than being piped ashore or re-injected. The concept would provide a fresh outlet for the company's 50 tcf of gas reserves.
Sasol and Statoil will cooperate exclusively in developing the offshore applications, and on a non-exclusive, case-by-case basis for other applications. It is also the intention that both parties will be able to hold equity in facilities developed on the basis of their joint work.(nt)
