>>>>>Very likely. Waterhouse executions are lightning fast. The problem there is getting them to take the order. Shorts, they have to have a live person approve. After a certain number of trades, longs too. No updates of account balances in real time, etc.<<<<<

Yeah, now I remember..... I have had Waterhouse for years, and love them, for their tools and customer service. Just not for active trading. Keep my conservative, long-term IRA's there still. And all those things you mention make lightning fast executions meaningless in my book. In fact, they add up to sloooooowwwwwww executions what with all the slow page re-draws, etc.

It's funny, after Waterhouse, Datek seemed to be nirvana, but it quickly lost it's luster after the first thousand problems...<g>

Guess there will be plenty of these online travails as the industry matures. Whole lotta learning to be done, as well as the company failures, closedowns, and principals being led away in handcuffs, to be sure. No one specific, mind you (lest the thought police be lurking), but you can bet there will be some of that, too.

I believe that the ever increasing number of investors with Datek has resulted in diminishing returns in its service. This will be true at all on-line brokers. It is the same thing that happens with a good ISP. Things are great until it gets popular and then the company can't handle the volume as well. While I hate to see you guys and gals switch brokers, it should result in less traffic for Datek.

Now, it is true that Datek's customer support has always left lots to be desired. But for the most part, I have very few complaints about my ability to trade, but I do not do day trading so I can't speak to their performance there.

Now, don't laugh, everyone, but I've got an MB Trading packet on the way as well. People keep saying I'll get better pricing there, althoug I still don't understand how.

But now I'm concerned that their product will suffer from popularity, as well. Is this a reasonable concern?

Barbara, would you keep us posted on your reactions and experience with MB for the first few weeks. It would be much appreciated.

thanks, peter
