Appreciate your thoughts. But I'm not sure I'm representative of a negative trend on this thread. I agree with you re value, price points, and sticking to your convictions. My conviction, to clarify, is that the DDs *will* recover by year's end, that *most will* show 50%+ gains, and that WDC *may not* be among them.

I think WD is losing market share, has significant debt especially compared to QNTM and its mgmt team has not shown it can do well during trying times. Both SEG and QNTM have been fire-tested many more times than WD. It may well be a $30 stock efore 1998 is out, but the likelihood of that is less than SEG being a $39 stock and QNTM being a $36 stock, or, for that matter ADPT being a $34 stock.

Risk is *not* the issue risk/reward *is*.

If some of the press releases coming out now are to be believed,
( ex. Read Rite) we have reached a bottom and should see improvement
in sales and profits from here out. I hope they are right. If they
are not I will be bailing out with everyone else. I have learned my
lesson with APM and a few others that sometimes you just have to eat
your losses and run like the devil.
On the other hand, I have seen over and over, stocks in the same situation as WDC that turned the corner, just when everything looked
their worst, and soared to new highs in no time flat.IBM an Chrysler
are but 2 examples.

I don't think we'll see new highs anytime soon. I'll be elated beyond
words just to see the 30's. But, you never know. I certainly see
more upside than downside risk at the present moment, and that is
the most important factor I consider.

Good Luck,
Sean
