Dear Mohan,

only now I saw that you have started an Indian board recently. Good idea! I'm bookmarking it.

Kind greetings,
Thomas

Mohan,

other Prophets of Doom that come to my mind are: Paul Erdman and Henry Kaufman (Kaufmann?), allthough I think that Kaufman is not as bearish anymore, at least not in public. I never really took either of them serious.

I have to admit I never read a book by Batra myself. These doom books normally make a good read, but somehow they seem to miss something as things invariably turn out differently. The studies by the Club of Rome back in the 70ies I think also fall in this category.

Thomas

Wrong Mohan. Ravi Batra isn't just a bear. His statements on the Indian economy have been brave, intelligent and lucid (for instance). His statements on the economic problems of America are quite visionary and one of the threads you note weyrich.com

is quitt "reactionary". I read the book and found it to be very sensible but his crusade is like pissing into the ocean and then trying to measure what he has just added. IMHO.

Interesting you should post this.

NB At the same time Batra was a super bear James Goldsmith and Soros were buying gold, the S&L's were unwinding and America looked in very poor shape.

The thing that Batra addresses in his book cited above is the impovrishment of America and Americans. In point of fact the world, literally the world at this moment is being floated by Americcan famlies credit card balances. Think about that.

My best,
