I spoke with somebody pretty close to Rambus yesterday. He disagreed with the
Electronic Engineering Times article regarding Direct RDRAMs being to
expensive to put in lap-tops and sub$1,000 machines. He pointed out
that they may be a little more expensive, but the performance is
superior and that Rambus technology is used in highly successful $150
Nintendo machines. He also noted that Direct RDRAMs are half the size
of SLDRAMs with superior performance.

Regarding use of cash as it builds up, he said he did not have a good
answer for that at this point, but a good portion of it will probably
go to funding R&D for successor Direct RDRAMs.

He also confirmed that the National Semiconductor "System On A Chip"
includes everything but memory. Consequently, he says it does not
effect Rambus.
