If he jumped across to the other side, he wouldn't be placing a buy(bid), he would be placing a sell (ask).

And yes, he would get a fill on both orders, thereby blowing $20 and owning nothing.

Although it would take Datek a week to transfer the sell from his margin type 5 account to his cash type 2 account. Or is it the other way around?

I'm too tired....

jawd, datek won't let you sell a stock if you have an open order to buy it, thus you can't buy or sell to yourself on island
