Thanks for the clarification wrt MM's, news, floor traders, etc. Personally, I doubt what you're saying but don't have any evidence to back this up. Especially on the NASDAQ, where MM's are supposed to be in competition with each other, rather than in cahoots.

My impression is that the big-broker announcements are a good contrary indicator: downgrades mark bottoms, upgrades mark tops -- or something pretty close to that. I think this is manipulation of those who don't know any better. But there's no way of knowing exactly what the floor traders are doing without inside knowledge. If they bought a few days ago or last week, they're a little under water now. That much is for sure. Are they dumping, holding, or buying more? No way to know.
