Rational and ObjecTime Strengthen Strategic Alliance to Serve Software Developers for Real-Time Applications

Companies Extend Partnership to Collaborate on Product Development And Marketing for Complex Real-Time Software Solutions
CUPERTINO, Calif., and KANATA, Ontario, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational(R) Software Corporation and ObjecTime Limited today expanded their strategic business and technology alliance by signing an exclusive, long-term development and distribution agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, ObjecTime will be Rational's exclusive supplier of modeling and automatic code generation technology for the real-time domain and Rational will have worldwide distribution rights to current and future versions of ObjecTime Developer.

Rational and ObjecTime are defining a comprehensive approach for the application of UML to the development of complex real-time systems. As a first step the two companies have published a whitepaper called "Using UML for Modeling Complex Real-Time Systems," co-authored by Bran Selic, vice president of Advanced Technology at ObjecTime, and Jim Rumbaugh, Rational Fellow. The UML was developed at Rational with input from other industry leaders and has garnered broad industry support from companies such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Oracle, and MCI Systemhouse. ObjecTime is a major contributor to the definition of UML and a co-submitter with Rational of the UML to the Object Management Groups (OMG). The OMG, of Framingham, Massachusetts, is a consortium of vendors that are jointly developing a set of standards for distributed object technologies.
