April 30, 1998 (TOKYO) -- NEC Corp. said it will invest 300 billion yen (US$2.3 billion) by
2000 to construct integrated circuit lines for 0.18- to 0.15-micron process technology.
NEC plans to product the system ICs and ship samples in October 1998.

Production is planned to start in early 1999 at its Kumamoto and Yamagata plants. These plants
will manufacture products using 0.18-micron process technology, but the kind of system ICs was
not disclosed.
