Good luck, Nancy!! Very smart children are amusing but a little difficult to rear, sometimes. I advised my own daughter very early that she should consider a law career, because she knew how to pick holes in any argument by using amazingly grown-up logic from the time she was about five years old. It's still good that you took your son to a psychiatrist after the shooting though, just to make sure the trauma was dealt with and not allowed to fester. Is your son okay about it now?
