Aware, Inc. Addresses Hambrecht & Quist's 26th Annual Technology Conference

HAMBRECHT & QUIST TECHNOLOGY '98 CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael A. Tzannes, newly appointed president and chief executive officer of Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq: AWRE) presented today at the Hambrecht & Quist Annual Technology Conference.

Aware, Inc., headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts, is a worldwide leader in xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology for high speed Internet access with products that enable new broadband services over the existing telephone network. Aware's products include xDSL technology, software, modules and modems for high-speed Internet access and broadband network applications.

In his presentation, Mr. Tzannes gave an overview of the company, its growth strategy and target markets. Below are some key points of the presentation.

As a technology innovator, Aware was an early pioneer in the development of ultra high-speed transmission technology. Some of Aware's firsts include the first full-rate ADSL chipset on the market, the invention of Splitterless DSL Lite, and the first commercially available DMT access router.

Aware has formed technology partnerships with leading companies in the industry, including Analog Devices, Lucent, and 3COM. The company has also gained significant end-to-end development and deployment expertise by working with its OEM partners including, CISCO, DSC, AFC, Ericcson and Pulsecom. Aware is committed to making its customers successful by delivering leading- edge technology and products.

Splitterless DSL Lite, which was invented by Aware, will be the next- generation PC modem. DMT has been endorsed by the UAWG and the ITU. The principle advantage of DSL Lite is that it removes the need for a telco "truck roll" to install DSL services.

Aware's business vision is to convert its collection of intellectual property, ASIC and DSP developments, datacom software, hardware and software system integration knowledge, and field deployment experience into cost and feature optimized chipset designs for end-to-end DSL systems.

Aware's technology products strategy is to propagate its ADSL and DSL Lite technology to DSP, microcontroller and ASIC providers for central office and CPE solutions. The company aims to generate revenue based on license fees, royalties, and software upgrades.

Aware's access products strategy is to deploy its x200 Access Router into end-to-end systems through OEM and joint marketing relationships.

The company believes it is well positioned to capitalize on the imminent DSL market opportunity through its technology and access products.
