Barb, this is a good idea, and one I've employed since I got fed up with Lombard/Discover. Still have that account primarily for options and rt option quotes. Also, have Datek, which I'm generally pleased with, unlike most on this thread, and Fidelity for my IRAs and kids accounts.

I'm considering moving the Lombard funds to Brown & Co. since they seem to offer just about the same features (stocks, options, checking) but are somewhat cheaper.

I don't think the ideal broker exists out there yet.

If you do that (multiple brokers) how would you handle
total account management? I have two myself--Datek and
Dreyfus (nee PBS). I do options at Dreyfus and equity
trades at Datek. So I want to sell an option on a
trade stock. Too bad, no can do. Sure, eventually
you can transfer.

I don't keep big bucks in either of these accounts,
but I don't think the problem goes away entirely if
I would. I have some bucks I'm reluctant to commit.

I also have a call-up broker that I do some of this
stuff with as well (bigger bucks and good executions,
I like them a lot and carry out my largest trades there).
But I LIKE the idea of doing it myself, talking only
to myself, answering only to myself, and having only
myself to blame or to take credit. I'd probably
be happier if I could get this notion out of my head,
but, so what? There it is.

So How Would You Manage That?

Regards,

Spots
