MCLEAN, VA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1998--LCI International, Inc. (NYSE:
LCI), one of the nation's fastest growing telecommunications carriers,
announced that starting May 1, it will begin offering international
long-distance calling for one cent per minute to new residential customers
for up to ten minutes each month for twelve months. The McLean,
Virginia-based company says that the new international promotion is targeted
at consumers who regularly make international calls.
"LCI understands that when you have family or friends who are living abroad,
it's hard to stay in touch without running up high long-distance bills,"
said John Taylor, senior vice president of LCI's consumer segment. "We want
make it easy for consumers to stay in touch month after month."
According to Taylor, customers who sign-up for LCI's Tell the World(sm) will
be charged one cent a minute for up to ten minutes each month for a full
year on international calls. After the first ten minutes of international
calling have been exhausted each month, LCI Tell the World(sm) customers
automatically receive LCI's best international rates and Exact Billing(sm).
In December 1997, LCI became the first major U.S. carrier to offer Exact
Billing(sm) to residential long-distance customers nationwide. Exact
Billing(sm) means that callers are charged by the second after the initial
60 seconds for the exact length of the call, including international
calling. According to the company, billing by the second can provide
significant savings, particularly on international calls where the
per-minute rate is usually higher than domestic rates.
Company officials say that customers who sign-up for LCI Tell the World(sm)
will also receive competitive domestic long-distance rates. In addition,
customers receive a calling card and personal 800 number, all of which are
charged with Exact Billing(sm).
