The pact calls for the development of three new colors including a J-Bird Records blue. All of these will be made available initially on the World Wide Web at either the J-Bird Records Web site (www.jbirdrecords.com), through the INK brand Web site at (www.inkit.com), or via the INK toll-free number 888-78-INKIT. "This deal provides our consumers with a new and fresh experience based on our music," said Jay Barbieri, founder and president, J-Bird Records. "Research indicates that our strongest consumer base, male and female college students, are also the largest consumers of music, fashion and technology products, making INK a perfect fit for our company's strategy," he added. "It is our hope that these colors will not only help to drive sales of our recorded product, but will also become a business unto itself by enhancing our customer's experience of the music we provide." "Many of us feel free to express our individuality through the use of fashion and music," said Elaine Dennis, co-founder and president, INK, Inc. "Both J-Bird Records and INK are committed to enabling people to express themselves creatively and by coming together we hope to deliver a unique experience which gives the consumer that opportunity." The polishes are slated to be available in the Fall of '98, with an expected retail price of $10.00 per bottle. Although specifies of the deal were not announced, J-Bird Records is expected to share in the revenues and plans for a conventional retail launch are being discussed. J-Bird Records (www.jbirdrecords.com) was launched as the music industry's first World Wide Web recording label and was founded by Jay Barbieri in October, 1996. Since then the label has gone public JBRD and has seen its catalogue swell to more than 250 titles in that time. In addition, J-Bird Records is now represented in more than 50,000 retail accounts through the Navarre Corporation, the industry's leading distributor of independent record labels across the country. INK, Inc. is a San Francisco-based corporation, specializing in developing cosmetic products and accessories that are available through both conventional and alternative consumer venues, as well as at www.inkit.com and 888-78-INKIT. INK combines the elements of music and technology placing a different spin on fashion. The first product introduction, launched earlier this year, is a "new mix" of nail polish that delivers a unique experience to consumers through the use of music and the World Wide Web. A portion of all product proceeds will go towards aiding music education programs in schools around the country as a show of the company's commitment to the freedom of expression.
