Steve,

Here is a general trading question. Most of my funds are in IRAs. After they were opened as margin accounts, the broker advised me that I could not trade on margin in an IRA.

I would like to occasionally buy on margin and short stocks, which can only be done through a margin account.

Q: Is this a general rule (SEC), a rule of a particular exchange, or the broker's house rule. I suspect it is related to the IRS prohibition against pledging IRA assets as collateral. (If that is still prohibited

Also, how are you coming with Spots' question as to whether shorting creates shares?

TIA

Richard James

Steve,

Who is Alchemy Investments, if you know. I'm wondering how much weight might result should they initiate coverage with a buy on a company with little or no coverage.

Thanks,

Richard James
