Lee, I think looking at gold is just plain silly because it has few industrial applications. Mainly, it is a measure of people's apprehensions about currency. Silver, on the other hand, has myriad industrial uses.

Since the US has transitioned to become more and more of a service economy and less of a smokestack economy, IMO the potential impact of wage inflation could be severe, but by all indications wages seem to be behaving nicely.
