Yes, but when the cable snaps will the emergency brakes work???
Either your stuck on that elevator until you can get off or your hurtin for certain... Meanwhile everyone who wouldn't take it are climbing (albeit rigorously) the stairs and getting where the wanted to go in the end. Now you may make it to the top floor and get off comfortably, it's a crap shoot as to who is going to get caught, but the people walking the stairs are not in the same danger... for them it's can they survive the climb without suffering a heart attack from the strain, or will they have to go to the nearest floor and take a chance on the elevator anyway. And when you get on you may find out that some idiot pushed all the buttons before getting off...
