Byron,

Another note from Brian, a non-SI friend. Thought that all would like to see. Can anyone answer his question????

William Brotherson (wb229ahc@micron.net)

Bill,

The question isn't "Am I able to read SI", its more like can I get any work
done! This thread is what motivates me to come to work every morning!

P.S. Next week I will be attending a tradeshow in Vegas (Networld +
Interop),
and I noticed an ad in Network Magazine listing all the exhibitors. There
was a company listed spelled Digicom. I was wondering if you could find out
if DGIV will be there, possibly a typo in the advertisement.

Brian

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE ENGINE ROOM:

Thursday April 30, 1:05 pm Eastern Time
Company Press Release
Ericsson pioneers new IP telephony services with launch of Internet Telephony Solution for Carriers
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1998--Ericsson Inc. has developed a new IP telephony platform called Internet Telephony Solution for Carriers (IPTC) that raises the standard for IP telephony systems. IPTC offers phone-to-phone, fax-to-fax and PC-to-phone services over a TCP/IP network. It provides a superior operations and management (O&M) facility that moves IP telephony to a true carrier-class communications system.

OK, folks, let's break this down a bit:

1. "IPTC offers phone-to-phone, fax-to-fax and PC-to-phone services over a TCP/IP network."
Any douts about how important and real this technology is? And, by the way, that is exactly what DGIV provides, except cheaper, faster (43:1 compression, UNIX-based), and directly to the international market.

2. "Ericsson pioneers new IP telephony services "
Sorry, Ericsson, but that is exactly what DGIV has been doing for a long time now. Good luck with trying to play catch-up.

3. "moves IP telephony to a true carrier-class communications system. "
Translation: this replaces the telephone and fax media, guys!

4. You can read the entire announcement, but all you will find about international agreements is... zilch! Just a satement about how many thousands of people they have scattered in 130 countries. Well, that's great for us, because it increases acceptance of this technology, allows others to sell boxes while we sell services (boxes too if they want'em), and emphasizes that our goals are to set their corporations and individuals up, rather than imposing our standards and our equipment on them. Mmm... wonder what Jimmy is doing?? :-)

I'm telling you, this is the hottest thing to hit telephony since Alexander Graham Bell first asked what God had Wraught???
