This is the thing. When the magazines are given a preview of new technology, they sign a legal contract with Apple not to reveal it till a certain date. They have a lead time. It was really long when I started, like three months at MacUser, but shorter at Macworld (maybe 1-1/2 to 2 months) by the time I stopped writing for them. The magazines can write it up but have to agree not to leak the info or let the magazines get "out" to the public till the agreed-upon date. If they violate it, Apple will not just hold them legally responsible, but will refuse to give them the scoops. So if the newsstand here in NY (email me and tell me where to buy it. LOL!) put out the magazine before the agreed upon date, Macworld is in big trouble.

Of course, now that there is only ONE monthly magazine that writes about Apple exclusively, Apple is not going to bite the hand that feeds it, so it's hard to know what Apple will do about this. Apple needs the magazines to have this info exactly when the products are released, to give them the press coverage they need, so people will BUY the stuff! In the past, Apple could punish one magazine when this happens, and could favor the other with information as the punishment -- this would get the favored magazine more subscribers, of course. Now that there's just one, all Apple can do is tell Colin "Don't do it again." Slap on the wrist. Apple needs these magazines to have the info on their new products on the street on the date of Apple's announcement and shipping, to encourage the sales. They surely won't stop giving Macworld privileged communicaitons.

They really can't do anything to you or Eric since you got it legitimately, but since they're in trouble for it getting out before the allowed date, it's NICE of Eric to take down the cover from the site, to help them out, of course.

That guy who said he doubted your credibility sure was off base and should apologize to you.

Hey, you do make a splash when you arrive, don't you? Very exciting.

Linda

I, for one, am glad you are a permanent member, Travis. Just one question... You've been a member since February. Why'd it take you so long to burst on the scene?

How bout that AAPL today? Still holding at 29 1/4.
