Dear Joe...

You say that Macromedia is a formidable competitor and a better "play." You also raise the kinds of questions that make me believe the only persons who might hope to have a "crystal ball" into the future of internet "plays" are software and telecommunications engineers.
Are there any on this thread? I don't think so. But I will tell you this. The technologies that 7th Level and Macromedia have to offer, and their business objectives, do indeed overlap. However, neither are entirely commensurate. And you must understand, there are a lot of good ideas out there that don't get anywhere because they've not got the people to take them there. I'd prefer to put my money down on a company managed well in a competitive environment rather than a company claiming to have a patented lock on the future of progress but, nevertheless, is managed by hype-sters who should have their little legs broken like twigs at the knees for the truth's sake.
Being invested in a "competitive" environment with as much ROOM for as many "start ups" as these internet plays is what's making the whole thing so hot and full of speculative nonsense that "professional" investors can use to their advantage over and against ours. Instead of pitting 7th Level against Macromedia in terms of some sort of contest of natural, capitalistic selection for economic survival and declaring the winner, you might instead privilege us all by informing us as to how it is you know what you know. Why is it that 7th Level is dead and Macromedia King of Kings?

Your friend,
Marty
