You raise some interesting points. Clearly something to think about. However, of all of these hundreds of millions of older PC's, why would any of the users want to buy a Sony or LS-120 drive that is backwards compatible with a drive they already have?

In this case, it is clear to me that backwards compatibility is not a big issue.

Regardless, it is clear to me that LS-120 is not selling well vis-a-vis the Zip drive. If as you say, mass production of the LS-120 has been in full gear for less than a year, it still hasn't sold well. Available supply of LS-120 has not been a problem.
