Is it time to back up the truck on GLM?

Global Marine Inc. (GLM): The oil and gas contractor's shares could rebound to the mid-30s and the company will earn $2.05 a share in 1998, Merrill Lynch & Co. analyst Kevin Simpson said in Business Week's ''Inside Wall Street'' column. The column also cited an unnamed hedge fund manager as saying Global Marine is a possible takeover target and would be worth 35 to 40 a share in a buyout. The manager named Santa Fe International Corp. (SDC) as one company that might be interested in buying the company. Global Marine fell 1/2 to 23 3/8 and Santa Fe fell 13/16 to 39 3/16.
