You may be right. I'm sure my friend was not speaking in absolute terms, just refering to relative likelihoods. You're certainly right in suggesting that at that level, the standard of treatment is fairly consistent worldwide. However, there will always be differences in opinion in the medical community as to when there is "no other option". For instance, the Director of Marketing for the medical practice I work in has a horrible family history of breast CA. She has lost her mother and two sisters to the disease. She has received 3 differing opinions from 3 very reputable oncologists in our area, ranging from prophylactic radical mastectomy now, to normal screening and cautious observation. Of course, the ultimate decision is hers to make. These cases demonstrate why the practice of medicine is still more art than science. Thanks for responding Al. Regards, Tim
