I don't think FORE has an OC-48 product ready, which would be pretty important. Or even if they did, FORE is a small company and the instability might make Level 3 think twice about them. They will also have QWEST and AT&T as competition, and if FORE's product can't deliver the same feature-set as Ascend's switches, it could put Level 3 at a disadvantage. I therefore don't think they'll go with a lesser switch, even if it's cheaper. Just my opinion. ********************************************************** FORE is not a small company, it is half-billion dollar company. Not as big as Ascend, but not small. That is FUD that Cisco and Ascend like to spread. FORE has been the leader in ATM since before Ascend knew how to spell it. FORE has been consistently at the forefront (no pun intended) of new ATM feature development. The ASX-4000 is not a "lesser switch", it is leading the way.
