NN and Nortel are fairly strong in the WAN for now, but don't have a strong future.

I own NN and ASND and wouldn't discount either. Check out NN/Siemens' MainStreetXproducts. They're formidable competition, especially in the international market.

Stimpson J.Cat, So far NN is No.1 in ATM WAN with 36170 multiservice switch, which is unmachable (contracts with BT,MCI and C&W-each 400-550 mln US$).NN-Simens 36190 with all ATM features included can run in terabit speed.NN has already started comercial sales which accelerates sales of 36170.ASND, CSCO and NT do not have even proposition for such switch on table.ASND admitted this on receant conf. call.Saying that NN has no future you have to give me strong arguments. It was NN pushing multiservices over ATM 4-5 years ago, with strategy and products!!!.CSCO, ASND (before before merger with CSCC ) did not even thik about it.It was NN pushing MPOA not CSCO or ASND which righ now trying to catch up.Remember NN-Simens is not waiting for ASND and CSCO to catch up.The next 2-3 years will tell who No.1 in ATM in general.

"It's time for IP to become industrial strength," said Newbridge CEO Terry Matthews. "Today's router-based networks are simply unable to provide the levels of service that business customers require from their service providers. With CSI, Newbridge, Siemens and 3Com -- as leaders in their industries -- are providing an evolutionary architecture that will revolutionize the way IP services are bought and provisioned." 3Com announced its intention to implement CSI capabilities in its enterprise WAN access and service provider point of presence products. So an enterprise equipped with 3Com gear is able to access the advantages of CSI from a carrier equipped with MainStreetXpress equipment. <<<

"ATM is now accepted as the most effective technology for building flexible and scalable multiservice networks," said Stewart Davies, Director, Network Product Design and Management at BT. "The way in which Siemens and Newbridge have implemented ATM maps perfectly onto this vision, enabling BT to consolidate our existing services and rapidly implement new services, such as business IP. The solution integrates all elements of the network from the core and multiservice edge switches, to specialist network termination equipment, into a single, managed platform architecture, resulting in service and cost benefits for BT," Davies added. >>>
