Conservative analysts' estimates are desired so that the company can perform better than the estimate. Then, when a earnings surprise occurs, the stock price will hopefully respond in a positive way to the earnings report.

Anyone have an opinion on why volume is down so much today? Datek's telling me volume at 12:09 (Eastern) is 40,900. Does this just mean that the dust has settled and all the profit takers are now out? I would also appreciate someone's take on the options action on APCO - I know absolutely nothing about the options market (that's my next investment educatinal goal :-) and would love it if someone could provide some opinion on the effects to the stock based on what's going on with options. TIA Prof
