Beverley,

I agree with your Roth analysis. I converted a substantial amount of my SEP-IRA to a Roth 2 months ago, because of the allure of no taxes (and no minimum withdrawals at age 59 1/2). Since then, I'm up 29% in my Roth, which in effect covers most of the taxes I will have to pay on the conversion. Long-term, I intend to steer my best trades (high return, low risk, such as IPOs etc.) to my Roth, so I believe I can grow the Roth faster then my regular IRA account.

Dennis

I like the Roth a lot. My sense is the government doesn't yet realize just how good it is and when they come to their senses, they'll take it away from us.

Roth is great for the gov't because they get the money NOW, and the conversions provide a tax windfall. Remember that politicians have very little incentive to think about the future.

30 years from now when people have multi-million $ Roth accounts, the gov't will invent a new tax to make sure there are no tax-free millionares around.
