Not to worry. "TOKYO (AP) - The top executive of Japan's scandal-plagued central bank hanged himself Saturday ... "

I wonder if AG could ever bring himself to do the honorable thing.

Evening Worswick;

Back from several days in Langkawi. I must remember not to vacation in Malaysia. Frankly Malaysians do not make good hosts and, in my estimation, don't really have a clue how to run a resort. But I did enjoy golf and diving par excellence. Stayed at the Berjaya resort in Langkawi but golfed at the Andaman resort. The Berjaya is famous for the travel pictures that show stilted chalets in the Ocean. Of course, these are a small per centage of the rooms there and are very difficult to get. The whole place looks like it is 20 years old and in need of a face lift. I was stunned to learn it is only 5 years old. Lots of things in disrepair, food sub par, staff, (mostly local) not friendly nor particularly well trained. Enough on travel...

My analogy would be that the crunch is a long, slow moving freight train and the headlights on the engine have just passed my position on the tracks. Its going to take a while for this one to pass. And its going to hit a lot of companies and banks sitting on the track. I have heard one estimate that the 2nd board on the KLSE will see half of its companys disappear. I have no reason to doubt this. We are starting to see closures of shops and small companys here in the neighborhood.

The water situation continues to worsen and continues to be a political fiasco. I do not know how this country will attract any serious off shore investment in the near future. Seems Mahatir and gang built towers instead of adequate water supply. In addition the press is reporting that a major factor is leaky water mains that are wasting away millions of gallons of treated water.

Real concerns about health problems are starting to rise with hawkers and restaurants less fastidious (if you could ever call them that here where the health inspectors are more intent on collecting cash "donations" then assuring healthy conditions) then ever because of lack of water. In addition people collect water when they can then leave open containers standing around increasing the potential breeding ground for the Aedes mosquito, the bearer of dengue fever. Cases are rising again.

I have decided against any investments here other then the rather large one I feel I make just by being here. And I am starting to think exit strategy.

Best,
Stitch
