You need to compare CDnow vs. KTEL. CDnow wins hands down. Just check the difference between two pages of the same CD:

cdnow.com

ktel.com

KTEL has a long ways to go to play catch up, while CDnow and other continue to innovate (and maybe Amazon CD will blow everyone away -- if they enter the market). (I am neither short nor long on CDNW and AMZN, but I am short on KTEL.)

Blown away? For some really impressive sites that sell stuff on the net why not check out

jcrew.com
garden.com

On that garden site, spend more than a few seconds. I mean really test it out, see how you can research different climates, design a garden, get information on products...anything.

Major brands need alliances, excitement, contests, etc. For example check out ea.com or clearly.ca

All of the examples I am giving are beautiful, loaded with information, nice style. KTEL's site looks dog-eared already and all those dead links...it's a joke.

And when I really ask myself about it...would I buy? Not from KTEL. Now when I ask the same question about AMZN the answer I get is ....whoops already bought something there, some books are pretty hard to get and AMZN can almost always get them, given time. Some sites have something to offer the consumer...KTEL's doesn't. And as for their young audience they won't have much to say about this site other than 'it sucks'.

Hmm...disclaimer...the clearly.ca site is down...and the Electronic Arts site asked permission to install an invasive Java Applet on my hard drive that gave me a really scary warning...maybe these low tech KTEL guys are onto something...now make that a Royale with Cheese...
