Is the statement below what you are referring to?
Digital could add $0.35 to $0.50 per share to Compaq's fiscal 1999 earnings, now estimated at $1.51 per share.

As far as I remember, DEC through multiple reorganizations never could get their balance sheet in order, even when they had a substantial advantage in the mini/microcomputer market. For this reason I think that under CPQ management that DEC's earnings could be amplified and grown. If we want to envision future complicated systems, this merger is a good union, but it's too early to jump in yet. JMHO. (Do you think it was upgraded so the SSB could unload some shares?) I apologize for this lapse into suspicious bear-type thinking, but it did cross my mind.<ggg>
