Your cost basis for Lucent was based on your cost basis of AT&T. The factor was .2799 You should gave received 32.4084 shares of LU for each 100 shares of T. example:

100 sh T cost basis of 3000 (30/share)

You received 32.4084 sh of LU at a cost basis of $839.70 ($25.91/sh)

Your 100 shares of AT&T had a new cost basis of $2160.30

Pete:
According to my old statements original cost of the spin-off was 17.86 per share, it may be wrong but that is what I got it for according to my Dean Witter summery, hope it helps.
