Paul -
sorry about the spelling of Cyrix. BTW the product decisions and discussions between CPQ and Intel were 93-94, product lead times were 9-12 months at that time in CPQ. But aside from that your comments reinforce the key issue - relatively knowledgeable people in the industry resent Intel's tactics and do not move spontaneously to support Intel.
You did not address the issue of red book access. Do you regard the denial of key engineering information to some potential customers but not to others as a legitimate business practice? What about the virtual moratorium that DEC suffered? In the forum of public opinion, which is where the FTC will be playing, the opinions of industry insiders will have as much weight as whatever truth you are referring to.
As one of the more knowledgeable people around on this topic, you should be able to see the way this is shaping up. Intel may be entirely justified on some abstract moral or business grounds, but they may have to give significant ground to stay out of the meat grinder just as MSFT had to do.
