Advise for whatever machine you're using / buying:
Get a Kensington Trackball, "Expert Mouse 5.0" (I have no idea why they call it a mouse, it isn't, it uses a 2" cue-ball sized roller with real ballbearings, doesn't drift, wander, or get snagged on a cluttered desk, whatever.

Best feature, only on Version 5.0 though, is the programmable 4 button feature, all buttons assignable. Set mine up for the usual left / right, with the top left to doubleclick left, and the top right to "alt+tab" to fast switch applications. Really slick.

Sidenote. A buddy of mine is a Quad, thats Quadrapeligic (sp?) and he's sold on the Kensington as well as Dragon Dictate with headset microphone (noise cancelling). Once you get thru the training period, voice commands are as fast as a keyboard, amazing.
