Why Teac is such a big force behind the Sony HiFD.

Teac/Nec was supposed to sell 95 million 3.5" drives this year at $15 each. Thats about 1.4 billion US. They have to replace this revenue stream somehow.

Hence Sony HiFD.

IOM's solution should be to lower its license fees, and get Teac on board.

Rocky is right about an all out marketing fight killing IOM's margins for Q4 and beyond. However, IOM and Sony are NOT stuck in a head-on collision.

And I foresee Sony losing at least $50mm in the first year, trying to penetrate the IOM market. It will be tough for them. And if their entertainment unit doesn't do well this film year, then cash flow will be tough.

Collaboration is so much easier.

I suspected that all was not right with zip +. But i thought it was inventory related, not performance related. oh well. Probably a termination issue. Fortunately Symbios got bought out by Adaptec, so future SCSI chips will be workable.

Still waiting for more bad news and a cheap buy-in price...

Please don't put headlines out like that when they are just your own little ideas. I understand the need for both bears and bulls on these threads, but your headline was irresponsible. I am sure I am not alone in scanning threads for headlines- which are frequently posted here before they appear on regular news services. So please show a little respect for others on SI.

Rocky, your BOGUS heading on the "RECALL" post is quite destructive.

There are many others who read this thread and are not able to respond...and may not know that you are a schmuck.

Has anyone ever called you that before? I'd be SURPRISED if someone hasn't already.

PLEASE--- THINK before you post.

Linda

iomega.com

If you use ZipPlus with a cable converter, gender changer, in a multiple device SCSI chain, or without the Iomega blue AutoDetect cable, included with every drive, you may not receive the results you expect from the drive and you may compromise the integrity of your data.

Folks, this is inexcusable. A basic aspect of SCSI is the ability to daisy chain devices together. The $199 Premium-priced Zip Plus doesn't even allow this basic aspect of SCSI. And only now do they own up to this fact when they have sold possibly hundreds of these lemons advertised as totally SCSI-compatible.

Not only this, but the fact that they also state:
"Do not use ZipPlus with PowerBook or PC notebook SCSI connections.

So all you Apple Powerbook owners better listen to Iomega, and not use the $199 Zip Plus with your laptops. Because according to Iomega, it will "compromise the integrity of your data." Not mention you PC laptop users who sprung for that SCSI card; you too are left out in the cold by Iomega.

Are there still any Iomaniacs here who don't question the shoddy engineering in favor of heavy marketing by Iomega, and how this may affect the Vapor! drive?
