Rashley,
You wrote: I'm still curious about this. If anyone has any insight to what SAP's plans are here,I'd like to know. ILOG is mainly a class library for planning engines, but it is far from a complete solution. Furthermore, it is doubtful that SAP even has access to enough fundamental data through their ERP systems to provide even a front end to ILOG with meaningful input.

IMO, this is a quick entry mechanism for SAP into OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing). I don't know much about ILOG, but from what I do know they offer exactly what you said, class libraries (mostly C programs I think) that can be called by the SAP modules. From this they can do some neat statistical analysis, optimization modeling ( linear, integer, non-linear programming), and forecasting (ARIMA, exponential smoothing, etc.) The latter is maybe the most important module perhaps to integrate with SAP's new supply chain module.

Rashley,

A follow up to my previous reply on your ILOG question:

Press release from another SCM software provider.....

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 6, 1998 -- ILOG S.A. (NASDAQ/NMS:ILOGY) announced today that Fygir, the international
advanced planning and scheduling (APS) vendor, has adopted ILOG optimization engines as the foundation for its APS products
deployed at leading companies worldwide.

Fygir relies on the ILOG Solver(TM) and ILOG Planner(TM) optimization components in its GRIP(TM) production scheduling
system and FIT(TM) supply chain planner. The products are used at over 80 sites worldwide.

Fygir serves a large base of prestigious customers in the U.S., U.K. and the Netherlands. Unilever, Cargill, Bristol-Myers
Squibb/Mead Johnson, Safeway, Basic American Foods, Beiersdorf and Heineken are among the leading companies that have
adopted Fygir software products.

Fygir's advanced optimization and problem modeling software combines its own APS expertise with ILOG optimization engines.
ILOG Solver and ILOG Planner provide the core optimization algorithms and technology, while Fygir's advanced application
environment lets users model and plan activities without being required to possess software or APS expertise.

"ILOG's optimization engines are becoming the standard. They offer the power and flexibility required in APS systems,"
explained Denis Mulder, President and CEO of Fygir, Inc. "The time saved by the ready to use components allowed us to
accelerate our time to market. Fygir is committed to provide leading edge optimization techniques for its clients."

SmithKline Beecham, the world's leading health care multinational, has selected Fygir's supply chain planning and scheduling
products as its recommended advanced planning and scheduling solution. "We needed to start using the intelligence of some
good software to help crack scheduling problems," said Nick Lynch, SmithKline Beecham Global Information Resource Team
Leader.

"Fygir's successes in the highly competitive APS market illustrate the way ILOG components enhance software vendors'
reactivity," said William Scull, ILOG Vice President of Marketing Worldwide. "The ILOG Optimization Suite offers a rich modeling
framework, intelligent search capabilities and leading edge algorithms. They can easily be embedded and extended, which saves
development time and leaves an open evolutionary path as needs expand."
