Mark, you wrote, "You forgot to add, "according to Christianity ". There are many people who believe differently. " Christianity doesn't necessarily speak that which Jesus spoke. So called Christianity is a religion with many different and diverse teachings. Our best guidance is to read the things spoken by Jesus, recorded and translated as accurately as possible. One of those translations from the Greek/Hebrew is " New American Standard Bible". In that translation it was said by some Jews who walked after Him and saw His miracles, that He is the Messiah. A few quotes from that translation for your review. Note: John 3:1: Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. A member of the Sanhedrin. "Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;" (John 3:1 NASB) "this man came to Him by night, and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."" (John 3:2 NASB) "Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;" (John 20:30 NASB) "but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." (John 20:31 NASB) John 20:30: Vs. 20:30-31 John selected only seven of the many miracles Jesus did (35 specific ones are recorded; see notes on Matt 8:1 and John 2:1) as special signs so that people would believe. ""Now they have come to know that everything Thou hast given Me is from Thee;" (John 17:7 NASB) "for the words which Thou gavest Me I have given to them; and they received them, and truly understood that I came forth from Thee, and they believed that Thou didst send Me." (John 17:8 NASB) ""O righteous Father, although the world has not known Thee, yet I have known Thee; and these have known that Thou didst send Me;" (John 17:25 NASB)"and I have made Thy name known to them, and will make it known; that the love wherewith Thou didst love Me may be in them, and I in them."" (John 17:26 NASB) May the God who loves you reveal His glory. My prayer is that you will see one of His signs from the Holy Spirit. David
