Greg, you gotta spell this one out a little more for me too.

How does Solamom take CPQ up? How much money did they have to throw at it? 22 million shares of Compaq moved today, $638 million worth. That's a lot of cash. Even 10% would be a lot.

Greg, I don't get it. How are "they" manipulating the stock? Who are "they"? Who benefits and how? Did they sell 22,000,000 shares (over $600,000,000) today to hold the price down? Or did they buy 22,000,000 shares to hold it up?

Isn't there a simple explanation, such as the possibility that one or more major institutional holders, annoyed with Earl Mason and the latest quarter's results, may be getting out of a major position in order to go play in another sandbox? And other institutions, on the buy side, see the current depressed price as an opportunity to get a position in one of the top 3 hardware stocks in the world? When the seller(s) got wind of the SSB recommendation the asking price was simply moved up to take advantage of it. And if SSB and the institutional seller(s) are in cahoots, does this mean that most of us on this board are idiots for being long on CPQ?

I'm a simple person. Please enlighten me so that I can take advantage of this manipulation. In particular, should I be long or short? Thank you in advance.

Charlie.
