owner of 15-store Knapp Video, Newton, Mass., needs to see more evidence of
consistent day-and-date release of DVD and VHS before increasing his
commitment to DVD rental, now offered in four of his stores.


He makes a good point. If the VHS is in the rental stores before the DVD on a hot new movie, people will pick the VHS and not bother with the DVD (might slow the adoption process). I'd bet the studios will deliver the DVDs at the same time soon, considering the investment Hollywood has put into the whole DVD industry.

This whole thing reminds me of the conversion from records to CDs. How many "record" stores do you see these days actually selling records?
