this is what i got from NAQ today ...... 5/1/98 Dear RT Trader Client; Over the past week, you started seeing degradation in our service - intermittent updates, dropped connections, bad numbers in charts, etc. After looking at our systems extensively, we found that one of our switches was being overworked in handling the traffic load and was throwing away data. This resulted in you not receiving all updates and receiving sporadically. This also caused us to lose connections with some of you. Having identified the problem yesterday, we immediately ordered a new more robust switch, which we installed this morning. This switch is capable of operating at ATM and Giga Ethernet speeds. This morning's problem was not related to the switch, but coincidentally as a result of having problems yesterday, the tick database became corrupted and we were attempting to recreate it just prior to market open. Unfortunately, at market open, we were still not finished, and with everyone trying to log in, the system backed up to the point that many of you could not connect. We aborted the database recreation and things eventually settled down. We will recreate the database over the weekend. We would like to apologise to you if we erroneously indicated that that this was not our problem. At the time, you told us you were having problems and in fact we could see symptoms of your problems, however, we did not know what the cause was. As it turned out, our switch was definitely the culprit. Our Internet systems appear to be operating very smoothly - best it's ever looked. We would like to hear from you if you now see improvement in our service or if you are still having problems. Just drop us a quick email message with your comments ( rtsupport@naq.com ). Again, sorry for the problems and thanks for your patience. NAQ Support Staff looks good but this... Over the past week, you started seeing degradation in our service - ..... is not the case it has been much longer than just the last week this thread is a testament to an ongoing poor performance hopefully this is a beginning of good things to come NAQ while you are at it check all other switches and whatever else you may have neglected to check
