National Public Radio Interviews Rick Cowles; Covers Electric Utility Y2K Threat

04/28/1998: On National Public Radio, on the Weekend All Things
Considered show, 4/25/1998, host Jacki Lyden covered the problem
of the Year 2000 embedded systems threat to electric utilities. Rick
Cowles of euy2k.com is interviewed. You can obtain a
tape of this show or listen to it on the internet via Real Audio -- see
below for instructions.

April 25, 1998: Host: Jacki Lyden

1. Y2K - At the dawn of the new millenium, as the clocks
and calendars turn over to the year 200, many of the world's
computer systems and other devices controlled by silicon
chips may stop working because they are programmed to
interpret 00 (zero zero) as the year 1900. And that erroneous
date could cause them to freeze up, shut down, or create
major errors in calculations. Known as the year 2000
problem, or in industry shorthand as Y2K, this seemingly
trivial computer glitch is costing businesses billions of dollars
to fix.
