Tom, the paragraph in question (from the Motley Fool) bears
some further discussion...

While industry analysts expect 15% long-term drive growth, component growth
should be higher -- in the 20% to 40% range -- since the demand for storage is
outpacing technological gains that boost the gigabytes per disk. That's the
investment thesis for the component manufacturers, particularly the head
makers.

I had not given it any deep thought, but had assumed that drive
makers would not want to increase average head content to keep
costs low. The expected drive capacity increase would be attained
as usual by increasing areal density. I'm not sure what OEMs pay
per head/suspension , but my WAG is around $5. In addition,
I remember that by 2000 two HDs are expected to be sold per PC.
Does anyone know what the ratio is right now?

So the Fool thinks the trend is toward more heads per drive.
I wonder where they got that idea? I suppose Tom Porter could tell us.
