No worries, Scott.

I was just trying to explain that these product cycles are a lot longer than people think, so the mapping of each CEO to products is pretty off, IMO.

As for Steve Jobs, I think there is another disconnect there. Steve doesn't get things done because he "is" Apple culture. In fact, he gets things done because he isn't. He yells at people, calls them idiots, even when they are doing what he told them to do weeks ago. He also has a keen sense of design, and when the product is done it tends to be great. Somehow, through the moods and the abuse, great people do great work.

Ironically, I think Amelio tried so hard to fit in to Apple that he was ineffective. Steve is effective because he has a "take-me-as-I-am" attitude.

I love Apple, and I loved working there. I'm at a startup because it is in my personal best (career) interest to do so, but I hope someday to go back.

They are hiring a lot of engineers for Mac OS 2000 right now...
