Some more snippets about Sony and "PlayStayshun" - basically Sony moribund, analysts not exactly tra-la-la but not exactly moribund either:

---

But Sony has since repeatedly warned of uncertainties for the current business year, citing a slowing of demand in Japan and Asia, intensifying price pressures and a peaking of demand for its game console PlayStation, which helped overall growth in 1997/98.

Some analysts expect Sony to take a cautious approach, and predict a profit decline for 1998/99 year.

Kuriyama said he expected operating profit from Sony's electronics products, such as minidisc players, DVCs, televisions and parts and components, to increase 10 percent to 370 billion yen in the current year, assuming a yen-dollar rate of 130 yen.

While the contribution from PlayStation will slow, the growth momentum will continue and PlayStation will yield operating profit of 125 billion yen, up eight percent, he said.

Shane. (pondering if DVC or Digital Video Cassette is the same as Digital Video Disk or else is some weird unknown to me little combination of old and new and also pondering if the PlayStayshun is hitting the upper part of the S-curve and is flattening out therefore implies that Sony's Y2000 release of the next integrated version will therefore be pulled in or if Sony realized all of this beforehand.)

Thomas:

> analyst on CNBC today that said LSI has very good long term potential, but will be weak short term.

I am no rocket scientist let alone an analyst, but isnt the above analysis apply to practically 99.9% of stocks! That is, in the Long Run (what ever that means!), there is a very good potential but in the short term (again whatever that means!) there will be weakness!

I am yet to see someone to define the term long term vs. sort term! Exactly what does long term mean? Is it 2 hours, 2 days, 2 months, 2 years, 2 decades, 2 centuries, or ??! And what does short term mean? Is it 2 seconds, 2 minutes, 2 hours, 2 days, 2 months, 2 years, 2 decades or 2 centuries? By looking at the question and the possible answers I see common identical grounds, dont you?!!

Must love it when analysts say: Oh yes, in the long term the stock will do very good, but in the short term there will be weakness!!
