Then the IT manager probably buys Lotus Notes. And he buys NC's and
NC servers from IBM because eSuite is the only game in town. How does
Java protect Sun's interests in the DB2 versus Oracle battle? Or
IBM's desire to dominate eCommerce?

As for mindshare, Solaris ranks behind Linux and NT. Sparc behind
Intel and PowerPC. HotJava behind Netscape Navigator. Java Web
Server behind Apache and Netscape Enterprise server.

Bottom line is that Java is way overhyped and its hard to see how Sun
profits directly from it especially if they continue to be focused on
a high risk strategy of knocking Windows off the corporate desktop
with business NC's and Java coded Office replacements.

Wall Street doesn't like Sun's increasing isolationism. Or its
involvement in so many different distinct areas (processor design,
operating systems, system design, box maker, storage, service and
education, software tools and applications)

Its not just fighting Microsoft but IBM, Intel, Apple, etc.
